head

Of course, a head sits just above a person's shoulders, but there are a few other, interesting ways to use this word.

You can use "head" as a verb to indicate the direction of movement:

  • A powerful hurricane is heading towards the east coast of the United States.
  • In what direction are you headed?
  • I'm headed south.
  • Where is the world economy headed?

You can also use "head" as a verb or as a noun to describe a person in a position of leadership:

  • Steve Jobs is stepping down as the head of Apple because of health reasons.
  • He has headed the company for the last 15 years.
  • The head of our organization has decided to hire more workers.
