July 6, 2011 - Word of the Day: expense

Once again, the word of the day is about money. Because so many people visit this website from the United States, this is a good topic to address. An expense is something that you have to spend money on. It does not have the same meaning as "expensive." We use the word "expense" as a noun:

  • Vanessa's monthly expenses are too high. She should cut back on spending.
  • There are many extra expenses that go along with owning a car.
  • After deducting their expenses, they discovered they made a profit.
  • Owning a house is a huge expense.
  • My daily expenses are very low.

There are many more words to learn on this page.
