July 4, 2011 - Word of the Day: muggy

Here's another adjective for you. We use the word "muggy" when it's hot and humid outside. The air seems to grab hold of you and "mug" you. I guess that's where we get the word "muggy." You really only hear it used in the summer when the weather is humid:

  • It's really muggy outside.
  • The air is muggy.
  • It's so muggy today. We should turn on the air conditioning.
