July 11, 2011 - Word of the Day: nibble

This word came up in class last week as we were reading an article about donuts. The verb "nibble" is used when taking small bites of food or the consumption of small amounts of food:

  • The chipmunk is nibbling on an acorn.
  • Sandra's baby is nibbling on her pacifier.
  • Tom nibbles on carrots and celery all day to keep his weight in check.
  • Please stop nibbling on the food until our guests arrive.
  • We nibbled on appetizers before our entrees were served.
