A person who is ambitious is determined to succeed. This adjective is used for people, but you can use it for animals and insects as well:

  • She's studying to be a doctor. She's very ambitious.
  • Ambitious people who work hard towards their goals often succeed.
  • Ants seem to be very ambitious creatures.

The noun form is "ambition."

  • His ambition in life is to become a priest.
  • Bertha was blinded by her ambition to become a great pianist, so she never got married.
