To bother someone is to cause trouble. Something or someone irritates a person. It's usually used as a verb:

  • All that noise is bothering me.
  • Tina is bothered by a pain in her stomach.
  • Please don't bother that dog. He might bite you.
  • Something is bothering me. Can we talk for a minute?
  • Many people are bothered by the problems caused from global warming and climate change.
  • Abdi doesn't like the smell of cigarette smoke. It bothers him.
  • A: Are you bothered by all this rain?
  • B: No, I'm not bothered by it at all.
