October 14, 2011 - Word of the Day: bother
To bother someone is to cause trouble. Something or someone irritates a person. It's usually used as a verb:
- All that noise is bothering me.
- Tina is bothered by a pain in her stomach.
- Please don't bother that dog. He might bite you.
- Something is bothering me. Can we talk for a minute?
- Many people are bothered by the problems caused from global warming and climate change.
- Abdi doesn't like the smell of cigarette smoke. It bothers him.
- A: Are you bothered by all this rain?
- B: No, I'm not bothered by it at all.
Stop! That noise is bothering me!
