September 12, 2011 - Word of the Day: try
Use the verb "try" when you do something for the first time or you do something that is difficult. A person who tries doesn't give up. (give up = stop trying).
- The students tried to get all of their work done before the end of class.
- You should try this bike. It's very comfortable. (try = use something or try something for the first time.)
- Do you want to try this restaurant?
- Try to call me when you arrive in Los Angeles.
- I tried calling her, but there was no answer.
- Henrietta tried on several pairs of shoes, but she didnt find anything that she liked.
- You should try on those pants before you buy them to make sure they fit.
- Let's try to get to bed early tonight.
- Charles tried to wake up early but he couldn't.
- You aren't trying hard enough. Keep trying!
He tried to teach his chickens how to walk in single file.
(single file = walk in a straight line, one person after another.)
