(indefinite pronouns for things and people)

These pronouns can be used with count or noncount nouns, or they can be used all by themselves.

all = 100%

  • All of my students are in the classroom.
  • All of the lettuce is fresh.
  • All of these buildings are old.

All of these buildings are old.

some = part, not all. This could be a small amount.

  • Some of the apples are ready to be picked.
  • She doesn’t have any water. She needs some.
  • Some of the information about the school is online.

 Some of the apples are not ripe yet.

any = no limit. Also, this word is used for questions and forming negatives.

  • You may have any of the flowers from this garden.
  • Are there any rabbits in the garden? I don’t see any.
none = zero
  • None of his fruit or vegetables are frozen.
  • Are there strawberries here? I saw none.
