The adjective "smooth" describes a texture. It’s a useful word for surfaces, such as tabletops and roads, and it’s commonly used to describe food:

  • This yogurt is very smooth.
  • Ice cream is cold and smooth as it goes down your throat.
  • The highway was rough and bumpy until it was reconstructed. Now it’s nice and smooth.

You can also use "smooth" as a verb:

  • He used an iron to smooth out the wrinkles in his shirt.
  • The diplomats tried to smooth over their differences. (smooth over = reconcile; fix)
