He’s about to carve a turkey.
They carved a pumpkin into a Jack-o-lantern.
He’s carving a statue out of stone.
He carves things out of wood. He’s a woodcarver.

We also use the word "carve" to describe how an amount of available time is decreased by some other activity.

• All of this extra schoolwork is carving into my free time.
• Bill needs to carve more time out of the day to spend with his kids.
• The presentation carved half an hour out of the meeting.
