The word "wound" is used when someone is hurt or suffers from an injury.

  • The doctors took care of the man’s wound.
  • The horse is suffering from a severe wound to his leg and has to be euthanized. (euthanize = humane killing)
  • If you don’t put a bandage on an open wound it might get infected.
  • The team is licking its wounds after losing a game against an old rival. (This is an expression. It means that a person or a group is recovering from defeat.)
