The word "wound" is used when someone is hurt or suffers from an injury.

• The doctors took care of the man’s wound.
• The horse is suffering from a severe wound to his leg and has to be euthanized. (euthanize = humane killing)
• If you don’t put a bandage on an open wound it might get infected.
• The team is licking its wounds after losing a game against an old rival. (This is an expression. It means that a person or a group is recovering from defeat.)

This word is often used as a verb:

• The soldier was wounded in battle.
• Several protestors were wounded by the police.
• Hunters wounded a deer and then chased him through the forest.

The word "wounded" is an adjective:

• The wounded soldier received a medal for his bravery during combat.
• A wounded lion can be very dangerous.
• The federal reserve helped to heal a wounded economy.

 The wounded man was carried away

from the battle by a fellow solider.
