Slime is an unpleasant substance found in wet areas. Over time, slime can form on rocks, in bathrooms, on walls of caves, and even on food.
- I can’t eat this sliced turkey. There’s a thin layer of slime on it.
- Cilantro will be covered with slime if it’s left in the refrigerator for too long.
- A snail leaves behind a thin trace of slime as it travels.
- A wet shower stall will develop slime and mold if it isn’t cleaned.
- Wet walls of a cave might be covered with slime.
- Kids like to play with slime.
The word "slime" also refers to the bad behavior of people and organizations:
- City leaders were rejected by voters who grew tired of the corruption and slime in government.
- Police officers deal with slime on a daily basis.
- People who are regularly exposed to criminal behavior and slime may become criminals themselves.
The adjective form of this word is slimy.
- Snails and slugs are slimy.
- A salamander looks and feels slimy.
- A rock feels slimy if it’s covered with wet algae.
- A slimy business person doesn’t care about the impact that his or her activity has on the environment.
- Gambling is kind of a slimy business.
- Slimy politicians use their power and office for personal gain.
- That was a slimy thing to do. He shouldn’t have done that.
- That was awfully slimy.
