A dot is a shape that is usually round and decorative.
Dots are used as symbols for writing and math.
The word "dot" is also used when giving an address for a website.
At the end of the 1990s, technology stocks, especially internet-related stocks, were very popular investments. This is referred to as the "dot-com bubble." In the year 2000, dot-com stocks began to decrease in value and eventually the dot-com craze came to an end. (However, as of right now, technology and internet-related stocks have returned as popular investments.)
