Sugar is used for flavoring food. It’s very sweet. Sugar comes from certain plants including sugar cane, beets, and corn.

People add sugar to coffee or tea to make it taste sweet.
Donuts are made with dough and sugar.
A gumdrop is a type of candy. Gumdrops are covered with sugar.
Sugar cubes are 100 percent sugar.
Milk chocolate has a lot of sugar in it.
Soft drinks such as Coke and Pepsi have a lot of sugar in them. The sugar in most soft drinks comes from high fructose corn syrup which is made from corn.
If food or drink does not have sugar, it’s said to be sugar free.

The word "sugary" is an adjective.

• Sugary soft drinks are not good for you.
• Sugary cereal is also unhealthy.
• If something is too sugary, you might not be able to eat it or drink it.

Note: The "s" is "sugar" is pronounced with an "sh" sound.
