A flag is a type of banner that represents a place or an organization. One of the most common uses of a flag is to represent a country.

  • This red, white, and blue flag represents the Netherlands.
  • This is what the Japanese flag looks like. It’s has a red circle on it which represents a rising sun.
  • The Brazilian flag is green, blue, and yellow, and it has an image of the world on its flag.
  • The stars on the American flag represent the 50 states that make up the United States of America.
  • People take a lot of pride in their flag because it’s a symbol of the country.

There are other reasons for flags to exist.

  • A black and white checkered flag is used to start a race.
  • Flags are used on golf courses to indicate the location of the hole on each green.
  • Sports fans wave flags and banners in support of their teams.
  • When a person waves a white flag, it signals a surrender.
  • Some people carry flags because they represent their beliefs.
