While walking home from work one day last month, Oscar noticed a small paper bag placed neatly against the rear tire of an old truck that was parked in the street. As he got closer to the truck, he could see what looked like dollar bills poking through the side of the bag. "Money," Oscar said softly to himself. He bent down to get a closer look, and sure enough, it was definitely money. He quickly looked up and down the street to see if anyone was nearby Then he looked inside. "Holy moly! It’s a bag full of money." Oscar’s pulse suddenly started to race. He could feel his heart beating in his chest. Clearly, the money belonged to someone, but to whom? Putting his conscience on hold, and believing that he hadn’t been spotted by anyone, Oscar stuffed the paper bag into his backpack. As he hurried back to his apartment, his mind was flooded with questions. Where did the money come from? Why was it underneath that car? Was anyone following him? Every so often, Oscar checked to see if he was being followed. He darted in an out of buildings, entering through one door and then leaving from another. He stopped at a coffee shop and sat in an empty booth for a few minutes, pretending to look for something on his phone. He felt confident that no one had seen him pick up the cash. When Oscar arrived at his apartment, he checked to see if his roommate was there. His roommate, Aaron, was at work, so Oscar knew he would have time to see how much money was in the bag, and perhaps, there woud be some clue as to where the money was from or who it belonged to. Before dumping the money onto a small kitchen table, Oscar remembered something he had seen once on TV. He put on a pair of gloves to avoid getting his fingerprints on any of the bills. "Just in case," he said to himself. There were six bundled stacks of $100 bills, unopened and recently printed as indicated by the series dates just to the right of Benjamin Franklin’s face. Oscar knew that a stack of hundreds contained exactly 100 bills, so each stack was worth $10,000. That was $60,000 altogether laying on his kitchen table. Sixty thousand dollars would take care of a lot of problems, but this money could create some new problems, too. Oscar needed to decide what to do. What did Oscar do?
