A job interview
Interviewer: Hello, Mr. Ramirez. My name is Jane Simmons. I do all of the hiring for our restaurant. | interviewer |

Juan: It’s nice to meet you Ms. Simmons. | Juan |
interviewer: It’s nice to meet you, too. I see from your resume and your application that you used to work as a machine operator when you lived in Mexico. | interviewer |
Juan: Yes, I did that for five years. | Juan |
Interviewer: The job opening we have available is for a cook. Have you ever done that kind of work before? | interviewer |
Juan: No, I haven’t, but I know a lot about Mexican cooking, and I can see on your menu that you serve Mexican food here. | Juan |
Interviewer: That’s true. Mexican food is very popular here. We also serve American food. Do you mind working in the evening or on the weekends? | interviewer |
Juan: No, I’m available to work at any time. | Juan |
Interviewer: We also need someone to take orders over the phone. How are your phone skills in English? | interviewer |
Juan: Well, as you can hear, my English is pretty good. I’ve been taking English classes for the last three years at night. | Juan |
Interviewer: There’s a two-week training period. The people we hire get paid minimum wage during that time. Then the starting salary is ten dollars an hour. | interviewer |
Juan: Oh, that’s really good. I’m very willing to spend time learning how to become a cook. | Juan |
Interviewer: We’ll call you when we’ve made our decision. Is the phone number on the application where we can reach you? | interviewer |
Juan: Yes, that’s my cell phone number. | Juan |
Interviewer: Okay, Mr. Ramirez. Thank-you for coming in today. We’ll be making a decision within the next week. | interviewer |
Juan: It was very nice to meet you. Thanks for interviewing me. | Juan |
Interviewer: You’re welcome. It was nice to meet you, too. | interviewer |
