We use soap for cleaning people and things. There are many different types of soap.

• Dishwashing liquid is soap used for washing dishes.

The word "soapy" is an adjective:

• Dirty dishes can be soaked in soapy water.
• Soapy water creates soap suds.
• Soapy water that gets in your eyes stings.

Soap suds float to the surface in a bucket of soapy water.

Finally, a TV show that has a continuous storyline and entertains through melodrama is referred to as a soap opera. The reason for this label is because daytime radio and television drama were once heavily sponsored by companies that advertised their cleaning products, such as various soap products, to the people who watched these types of programs.
