Today is a national holiday in the United States. We honor those who have fought and died in wars and other conflicts throughout our history. People also pay their respects to family members by visiting their grave sites, bringing with them flowers or wreaths. Banks and government offices are closed today, but the stores will be open.
The word of the day is "through."
The Purple Level Lesson for today is on the verb "last." It’s worth keeping in mind that "last" can be used as a verb or as an adjective.

The word of the day is "stagnant." This word is similar to yesterday’s featured word (stale), but it’s used for very specific reasons. We use "stagnant" when describing water, air, and economic activity.
The Purple Level lesson of the day is "do." It’s important to remember that "do" is a main verb and a helping verb.
I haven’t figured out what to do next with the Aqua Level, so the next best thing is to have students work on prepositions.

Some students are having trouble with the audio on certain pages of this website. If you can’t hear something, please let me know which page is causing trouble and I’ll fix it immediately. You may have noticed that all of the new recordings use Soundcloud. The other audio service is too unreliable to depend on, so it will take me some time to convert all of the audio into the new format. The nice thing about Soundcloud is you can download the audio and listen to it on a mobile device or on your computer.

If you are studying pronouns in the Aqua Level, the pronoun of the day is "I." You must learn how this pronoun changes from subject to object, and you need to learn about the possessive forms of this word. This is basic English, but intermediate and advanced level students sometimes make mistakes when using first-person pronouns.
